The Price Of Insulin

So, I do not know how many of my followers are diabetic. But I need to put this out there. I am a type 2. I have been for nearly 24 years. I am insulin dependent amongst other health issues. This is the one I need to address today.

I have had medicaide and marketplace insurance on and off for the last 13 years. This year I ran into a huge issue. I went to renew the insurance online and the lovely government decided apparently that people with diabetes are no longer entitled to insulin.  I was hung up on over 15 times, and then I was lied to. I was quoted over $600 out of pocket monthly for my insurance. This was WITHOUT any diabetic medicine coverage. No discount on insulin or my CGM.  I jumped through hoops and finally got private insurance. I was told if I paid the extra amount I would have medicine coverage for my insulin. I have to call tomorrow to find out if that is the case. Because when they ran my insurance through my pharmacy just ONE of my insulins was $500. I am on 2.  I am eligable for medicaid. But here runs the issues that that.  In my state they will only cover 6 prescriptions a month.  I have 2 insulins, and my CGM. I also need the syringes and tips for both.  That alone is 5 prescriptions. I have maintenance meds that I must have to live as well. These are not optional. In total I have about 14 prescriptions I have to take every day.  So I cannot rely on medicaid.  Last year, through the healthcare marketplace, 95% of my meds were free. I had a co pay on one insulin, and of course the CGM. I also had co pays on  2 other medicines I am on. I also had office co pays and specialty co pays.  I have no issue paying that at all.  Its when meds are more then your mortgage and things that it becomes incredibly frustrating to maintain your health.  So here is where I want to share some information.

DO NOT attempt to ration your insulin! It can kill you.  There are several options to get help. I am going to put them below.  I am looking into these things for myself. I cannot take the risk of dying because our government doesn't believe we need these lifesaving meds.  I look at all the countries with universal healthcare that is free and I wish it were here in the USA as well.  But until we stand up as a nation and say hey! Nothing will change.  I wish you all the best. Please pray that things change where we don't have to chance dying before we get the help we need here.

I personally am on Insulin Duglodec, as well as Insulin Aspart, and Freestyle Libre 3 plus CGM!
