Teacher Raises in Oklahoma...What is Really Happening Here?

So today I came across a post about teachers in Oklahoma getting a raise of $2500. That sounds amazing right? But it comes with several red flags.

To receive this money they have to work an additional 15 days a year. They will not receive the daily rate they are due for those extra days meaning they are losing over $1800. That to me sounds awful enough. But here is the kicker....That money is coming out of the TEACHERS retirement fund.

This is money each and every Oklahoma teacher has placed money into for their entire careers and now the state wants to take that money to pay for these "raises" and upgrades to schools and scholarships for students to enroll in private school.

So what can we do?

First go check into this for yourself.

Do you know a teacher? Are you a teacher? We need to fight this before anyone can let it fall through the cracks.

Another Source

I have done unclassifed teaching in the past and the pay is not great. Even with my bachelors degree it's not great. Teachers already barely make ends meet. I know many that work a 2nd job over the summer just to be able to keep their bills paid. I cannot comprehend how this is allowed. These men and women spend countless years making sure our children learn and succeed.

So how can we help this no happen? We need to contact our Oklahoma State Representatives

Please reach out! These funds should not be coming from our teachers pockets. This needs to be addressed from state or federal funding. Not from the very people that do the most for our children and education in this state!
